| Sparse mode vs. Solid Mode |
| fdmONLY.com, fdm ABS Prototypes Catalyst software “slices” the .stl file and creates the “toolpath” for the dimension printers. This is the software that the model is oriented in for the most efficient printing available. Sparse means that the internal parts of the model are ‘web-like’ with the outer walls of the object being approximately .06 of an inch thick. This Sparse Mode is a plastic and a time saver. Most models- by nature have no reason to be ‘solid’, however, some are actually working models, and strength and stability are an issue, so solid can be the internal structure. Please click on the pictures of this square block which shows the internal “sparse mode” structure in large size. |
